Dr. Miteswar Purewal, MD is a highly regarded physician specializing in interventional pain management with a robust background in anesthesiology. As a key member of the Relievus team, he serves patients across South Jersey and Pennsylvania, offering cutting-edge pain management solutions for both acute and chronic conditions. Dr. Purewal’s expertise includes advanced techniques such as spinal cord stimulation, vertebroplasty, and intrathecal pump management, allowing him to provide personalized and comprehensive care tailored to the unique needs of each patient.
Dr. Purewal’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, with honors, from the University of Ottawa in Canada. Driven by a passion for medicine, he earned his M.D. from Saba University School of Medicine in the Netherlands-Antilles. His postgraduate training includes a preliminary medicine residency at Drexel University in Philadelphia, followed by an anesthesia residency at Tufts University/New England Medical Center in Boston. To further refine his specialization, Dr. Purewal completed a Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.
From 2005 to 2011, Dr. Purewal served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine. During this period, he was a staff anesthesiologist and the Director of Orthopedic Anesthesia, overseeing the training and supervision of CRNAs, anesthesia residents, and medical students. His work in thoracic and regional anesthesia, including proficiency in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, highlighted his dedication to advancing anesthetic care.
Dr. Purewal also held the role of Medical Director at the Limerick Pain Center with Community Health System from 2014 to 2017. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in coordinating the guidelines and procedures for both interventional and medical pain management, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
Board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in both Pain Management and Anesthesiology, Dr. Purewal is committed to remaining at the forefront of his field.
